baata mellaan! baata mellaan! Papa's sleepy eyes popped open as soon as he heard that. I like doing that to him. Give him these little jolts to get him going. We had been going through my new ABC book for the past week or so. Papa had been pointing out the water melon against W all this while. But I didn't feel sufficiently impressed by the obese fruit to be motivated enough to say it out aloud. Papa had resigned himself to the fact that water melon was probably too complicated a fruit for me to understand. Today morning when I saw dad staring at the wall half asleep while having his breakfast, I knew I had to do something to get his attention. At a whim I opened up the ABC book and immediately knew what I had to do. I put my finger on the water melon and as if it was the only fruit in this world I bellowed out aloud....baata mellaan! baata mellaan!
Sure enough it had the desired effect. Papa let go of the oatmeal that he pretends to like and with a great deal of excitement hurtled towards me and in attempt to get a repeat performance out of me pointed to the water melon with his misshapen fingers and asked "kyaa hai ye...kyaa hai ye?". Now I like keeping things a bit unpredictable, coz that's just my style. So I looked up at him and gave him the cutest smile possible and turned the page and proceeded to Z and declared that the Zebra on that page was actually a Zoo. Papa winced and made a valiant attempt at concealing his disappointment - "Offo, ye to Zebra hai, ye to tujhe pata hai naa". Half Happy, half annoyed and totally unsure of what to do next, Papa got up and looked at me turning the pages of the book for a bit and proceeded to gulp the oatmeal down. Mission Accomplished!!!
Okay so the half sleepy state of Papa is probably my fault too. I just couldn't sleep well last night. I was busy thinking about the fun we had yesterday on Mom's birthday. And when i want to think there is only one place that works for me. I need to be in Papa's "godi" and I need the godi to keep moving about the room. But more about that in another post.
